Memphis was the capital of Ancient Egypt and Saqqara was its necropolis. Later it was eclipsed as the burial ground of royalty by Giza and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, it remained an important complex for burials and ceremonies for more than 3,000 years into Roman times. |
